I remember reading a book when I was in 6th grade.?

It was about a young girl whose mom gets sick (I think with cancer) and when she dies the girl buys a simple wooden box to put her ashes in. It has been killing me for years as to what the title of the book might be. I thought the title might have been Darcy's Song but it's not.
