1995 movie Kids, what happens in the ending, what is implied?

There's no way he could have known he had hiv. I think it's just showing him wake up in a daze all drugged up or drunk and confused, to show how kids are reckless in their behavior and do stupid things without thinking about it. Then later in life they wake up to the reality of it as adults like "wtf what happened to my life".
